           ​The working world has been a very popular topic of conversation recently. From hybrid-working to quiet quitting, we are now in an age that some have labelled “The Age of Anti-Ambition”. This stems from the recent shift in attitudes to work; with the rise in hybrid-working and flexible work hours, it is evident that work-life balance has become a priority for many people.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The sudden outbreak of Covid-19 meant that many had to switch from their usual office environment and work from home for a period, but now that the world has returned to a more ‘normal’ way of living; it seems the flexibility that working from home offered is something that workers are not ready to give up. In a survey carried out in February 2022, 84% of workers in Britain who worked from home during lockdown said they would prefer a hybrid pattern of working. The current workforce are not the only ones that believe an importance should be placed on separating your personal and work life; surveys show that many young people believe work-life balance is vital and would like the opportunity to work from home in future.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Shorter office hours, remote working and different patterns of working have become quite the trend, there are many surveys and experiments being conducted to gather data around this topic. Over 70 companies in the UK are currently taking part in a six-month global experiment which began in June run by thinktank Autonomy. Those participating in the experiment have agreed that all employees will work 4 days a week for the duration of six months with no deduction from their pay. The purpose of this experiment is to see the effects on employee satisfaction, teamwork, and company commitment. As a result of this experiment, nearly 90% of companies said that they will continue 4-day working weeks after the trial ends.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Recently, we have also seen the emergence of the term “quiet quitting” which feeds further into the theory that we are in an age where people lack ambition. Quiet quitting is when a worker agrees to only do what they get paid for at work, refusing to do more than what is stated in their job description. Reasons for quiet quitting can be from avoiding burnout and making a distinct divide between work and personal life to being unsatisfied with a job and therefore, decide not to do more than expected. There are conflicting opinions on quiet quitting; it is a positive thing for some, whereas others see quiet quitters as disengaged employees.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           But does implementing firmer boundaries at work and flexible working mean people are becoming less ambitious? Are workers truly losing the desire for corporate progression? Is the age of anti-ambition an accurate reflection of the current times?
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Some people agree that we are indeed in the age of anti-ambition. They believe that the desire for corporate progression is dying as more people are switching careers, voicing their desires for greater flexibility within their jobs and enforcing stricter boundaries. Almost 500,000 more people were in paid work before the pandemic compared to the first quarter of this year, the increased number of people leaving the UK workforce is because of older workers retiring early. The upsurge of workers going into early retirement coupled with quiet quitting, hybrid working, and the like has raised alarm bells for people; growing concerns about what the future of the labour force will look like.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           In contrast, others believe this is an unfair title. Many have taken to social media to express that workers have not become lazy or lost their ambition. People have begun to question why ambition is only attributed to professional success and why switching careers and early retirement is being viewed as a negative thing. The pandemic was a big reminder that the things and people we care about are important things that can easily get neglected. This is a major factor in the emergence of quiet quitting and people leaving the workforce to retire early or pursue a career doing something they would not have done otherwise.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           People are more determined than ever to not only work in a job they enjoy but ensure they have enough time to do things they love outside of their work environment. As a result, we have seen the number of hybrid workers and people going into early retirement rise. Success looks different to everyone, and if that is the case, can it really be measured? Is “the age of anti-ambition” a fair title? There are so many conflicting opinions about whether the age of anti-ambition has dawned on us, but one thing is for sure; things are changing but change is inevitable.

           The extent to which someone loves their job is determined by their level of job satisfaction. Job satisfaction is defined as the degree of contentment an individual feels within their job. From career progression to annual salaries, there are variety of factors that can affect how employees feel about their jobs.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           A study of work well-being in 2021 found that 1/3 of employees in the UK are unhappy in their jobs. The industry that had the lowest score for employee happiness was real estate, whereas workers were found to be the happiest in the education sector as they felt they had a clear sense of purpose. Nonetheless, the United Kingdom ranked 12th out of the top 15 countries in the world for job satisfaction in a 2019 survey of over 13,000 employees. India was found to have the highest levels of job satisfaction, closely followed by Mexico and Turkey. However, these surveys were conducted pre-pandemic so the results may well have changed since then.
          &#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           The Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) created the 7 dimensions of job quality, also called 7 dimensions of good work. This highlights seven different areas within employment that are important to employees.

           These 7 dimensions are the different categories employees use to measure the quality of their job; some are universal whereas as others are relative. It is also important for employers to check the happiness of their employees and understand what is important to them within their job roles and the working environment within the company. Indeed’s latest ‘Workplace Happiness Report’ revealed that the second most common reason that people consider leaving a job is lack of happiness, with the leading reason being unfair pay.

           Now that each working style has been defined and we have looked at the pros and cons of each one, all that is left is to answer the question. Are any of these approaches better than the rest?

           The answer to this question is subjective. No one method of working will suit every business and employee. The best approach is to find the best fit for business operations, business culture and the individual workers. Change is inevitable and the working world has adapted and evolved since the outbreak of COVID-19. It is unlikely that businesses will fully return to how they were pre-covid and it is likely these different methods of working are here to stay.

           Impostor Syndrome often goes unrecognised and can easily be mistaken for anxiety or low self-esteem. So, what exactly is Impostor Syndrome, how can you recognise it and how can it be dealt with?

           What is Imposter Syndrome?

           Impostor syndrome is the belief that you are not who you say you are. People that experience this feel like they are a fraud and not as competent as others perceive them to be. Experiencing these emotions are not uncommon and most people have experienced Impostor syndrome or the symptoms of impostor syndrome to some degree at different points in their life.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h4&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           What are the symptoms?
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;

           You can only identify something when you have knowledge of what it is and how to spot it. Here are some of the characteristics of Impostor Syndrome:

           What causes Imposter Syndrome?

           The internal experience of Imposter Syndrome can feel like a never-ending cycle and result in mental, physical, and emotional exhaustion. Different factors can bring about impostor syndrome such as:

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
            
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Individual Traits
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Different personality traits can feed into Impostor Syndrome such as perfectionism and insecurity. Perfectionists can delay their work because they try to get things “perfect”. They also tend to critique themselves too harshly and feel their work is not good enough because they believe it can be better or perfect.

           Similarly, individuals that struggle with low self-esteem battle with the constant belief that they are not good enough and unqualified.

           Family culture and parenting can have a massive impact on the views and behaviour of an individual. If an individual is constantly held to high standards or has been brought up by parents that are controlling, this can be a trigger of impostor syndrome.

Many can be overwhelmed in these situations and feel pressured to live up to a certain standard because they feel that others are more qualified than them.

           Once an individual has identified impostor syndrome, it is important to look at different ways to cope with it and hopefully get over it altogether. Here are few ways that you can start to tackle impostor syndrome:

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

            Talk to others

           Speaking to people you trust and making them aware of what you’re going through helps to alleviate stress and is a great way of reminding yourself that you are not alone. It is possible that the people you confide in have had similar experiences to you and may be able to relate to you and offer you support.

            Celebrate achievements

           Acknowledging your achievements and successes will help you internalise them and give yourself credit for the hard work you’ve put in. It is also a good way to reflect on how far you have come, if you have achievements then you are making progress!

            Perfect doesn’t exist

           It is very important to understand that there is no such thing as perfect. Perfection is subjective, what is perfect to one person may not be adequate in another’s eyes and vice versa.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

            It is okay to be yourself

           Being you is what makes you unique. Comparing yourself to others will always have a negative impact; you are not the same as others and others are not the same as you. Everyone has different skills and ways of doing things.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

            Progress is gradual
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Mindsets and views have been learnt so they can be unlearnt, but you cannot expect to see progress overnight, the process will take some time. Patience is key and it is important to constantly reflect.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
            
          &#xD;

           The last thing to note is that impostor syndrome is assumptions versus reality. Assumptions are not facts; they are what you believe to be true. Once you can distinguish your feelings from the truth, it will make a world of difference.

However, getting rid of physical methods of communication and replacing them with digital platforms, allows interactions to be more effortless and aids when tackling tasks such as sending emails and signing contracts. Microsoft 365 Environment SharePoint is used within Warner Recruitment for each person to work on various duties, this allows documents to be shared between colleagues enabling to edit and collaborate on projects together in real-time.

      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           Additionally, the use of video conferencing software increased immensely amid the outbreak of COVID-19 and we have continued to use this approach at Warner Recruitment to improve communication. We utilise Microsoft Teams as a platform to hold video conference calls which allows us to work and connect with people from anywhere in the world.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           Naturally as a recruitment company, we take numerous calls on a regular basis, so we have employed Voice over Internet Protocol phone systems (VoIP) permitting us to answer calls directly from our tablets, computers, or any data-driven device.
